The mechanical properties for the determination of resistance to cutting by sharp objects have been updated.

EN ISO 13997:2023 specifies a cut test method and calculations for use on materials and assemblies designed for protective clothing, including gloves.

The test determines the resistance to cutting by sharp edges, like knives, sheet metal parts, swarf, glass, bladed tools and castings.

When EN ISO 13997 has been mentioned in a material or product requirement standard, that standard contains the information to permit the application of this standard to the particular product.

This test does not provide data on the resistance to penetration by pointed objects like needles and thorns, or the point of sharp-edged blades.

It is not considered suitable for testing materials made from chain mail and metal plates.

Provisions for the safeguard of the operator are not included in this document.
