The European Commission adopted the proposal for a Regulation on Cableways in March 2014 that reflects the discussion with the MSs and the stakeholders and the outcomes of the impact assessment study. The proposal is under consideration by the European Parliament and the Council.

If the adoption takes place in the second semester of 2015, in this case, the Regulation will be applicable in 2017, after a two-year transitional period, to allow manufacturers, notified bodies and Member States to adapt to the new requirements.

The proposal is aligned with the New Legislative Framework as for the new provision regarding definitions, the obligations of the economic operators, the reinforcement of the notification criteria for the notified bodies, the modules for the conformity assessment. In addition, there were also some changes regarding the scope. The proposal keeps the conformity assessment procedures for safety components while updating the modules according to the decision. Furthermore, there is an alignment of the conformity assessment procedures for subsystems with those already used for safety components, and there are also provisions regarding the fixing of the CE marking for subsystems. it does not contain changes in the area of the essential safety requirements.

The Regulation will repeal Cableways Directive 2000/9/EC.
