Scope

Directive 2014/35/EU creates the conditions throughout the EU for the sale of electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits. The electrical equipment than falls in the scope of the directive is designed for use with a voltage rating of between 50 and 1 000 V for alternating current and between 75 and 1 500 V for direct current. The legislative act aims to ensure high levels of protection of health and safety of persons, and of domestic animals and property.

Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX) lays down rules on the sale and putting into service of equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. It aims to ensure that products fulfil certain requirements to protect the health and safety of persons, workers and the protection of domestic animals and property. It applies to a wide range of products, including equipment used on fixed offshore oil and gas platforms, in petrochemical plants, mines, flourmills and other areas where a potentially explosive atmosphere may be present.

Directive 2014/33/EU on lifts and safety components for lifts aims to allow lifts and their safety components to be sold throughout the EU market and to ensure a high level of safety for lift users and maintenance staff.

The directive lays down rules on the sale and putting into service of lifts and safety components for lifts. It applies to lifts that permanently serve buildings and constructions and that are intended for the transport of persons and goods. It does not apply to funicular railways, hoists and escalators or walkways.
