The CE marking appears on many products sold in the Single Market of the European Economic Area.

It indicates that products traded in the EEA have been assessed to meet safety, health, and environmental protection requirements.

By affixing the CE marking, the manufacturer declares that the product meets the applicable requirements and can be sold in the EEA. This also applies to products made in other countries that are sold in the EEA.

The advantages that the CE marking brings are essentially:

  • Businesses know that the CE marked products can be traded in the EEA without restrictions
  • Consumers enjoy the same level of health, safety, and environmental protection in the entire EEA.

A comprehensive guideline on the implementation of EU product rules can be found in the Blue Guide.

Not all products have to be CE marked. It is only compulsory for most products covered by the product legislative acts. CE marking on other products is prohibited.

Please note that a CE mark does not indicate that a product has been approved as safe by the EU or by another authority. Nor does it indicate the origin of a product.
